The Island

Its capital is Mytilini, locaLesvos is the third biggest island in Greece, with an area of 1636 square kilometers and a coastline of 370 km. The island has a population of 90.634 inhabitants and belongs to the Dean of Northern Aegean.ted in the northeastern part of the island. It possesses a population of 27.247 inhabitants, while it is also a spiritual and cultural center. Other important towns of the island are Agia Paraskevi (2268 inhabitants), Agiassos (2498), Kalloni (1732), Polihnitos (2763) and Plomari (3377). Lesvos is also considered the homeland of ouzo, due to the numerous ouzo brands existing there.
